Tire Chains for Snow Plowing? So you bought a new plow for your pickup truck or SUV, complete with a handy
little joystick to operate the hydraulics. The plow was heavy on the front end
so you spent the money to get your suspension upfitted for the new load and even
went so far as to get a higher capacity alternator installed to handle the extra
load on your electrical system. Feeling good, and your new snow plowing machine
is looking good and you can't wait for it to snow. Six inches of wet and heavy snow on the ground in the morning. Off you go to take charge of plowing the snow from your driveway and maybe
help out some neighbors as well. You enthusiastically go after it and in less
than 5 minutes your plow is hooked up. 30 minutes later your 500 yards of
driveway are clean. You go after your neighbor's driveway but it was never paved
and you get stuck in the snow and mud. Nuts! What an embarrassing situation! In
all of your carefully calculated preparations it never occurred to you to get
tire chains. And if you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you need 2 pairs of tire chains.
Buying tire chains can be daunting; there are so many kinds of chains. There are
medium duty twisted link chains, and alloy square link chains, and heavy duty
chains, and V-bar chains that are especially good on ice, and more. So you might
find it difficult to decide what kind of chains you want on your tires, but one
thing is sure – you won't get stuck so easily once you get those chains on. |
